THINGS TO DO LOCALLY

transp.png

Life on the site isn't about organised activities, but about relaxing in the sunshine, meeting the wildlife and getting to totally detox from the usual distracting technology.

Yorkshire is brimming with nature for you to explore, with Yorkshire wildlife's Barlow common and  Potteric carr nature reserves and the RSPB Blacktoft Sands reserve an easy drive, or maybe visit Thorne and Hatfield Moors for a taste of the area's characteristic moorland.

Less than half an hour will have you in Doncaster, making some four legged friends at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park or buzzing with history at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum.

FISHING: You can enjoy fishing directly opposite the campsite at the popular 'Sykehouse Fisheries' (booking required direct with fisheries)

WALKING/Cycling : The local area has an abundance of lovely walking or cycling tracks along both the canal and transpennine trail.

BIRD WATCHING: We like to encourage and support local wildlife as much as possible, and within the campsite there is a dedicated bird feeding area. Some of the birds we regularly see include barn and tawny owls, great spotted woodpeckers, swallows, curlews, herons, long tailed tits, goldfinches, Redpolls, tree creepers, buzzards, kestrels, Jays and many more. Occasionally have also spotted the illusive kingfisher whilst walking along the canal and dyke sides. We also have bats living in the oak trees.

eating and drinking : The village has a friendly local pub called 'The Old George' where you can enjoy a nice bit of pub grub and real ales, plus in summer months take a dip in the outdoor pool!  a short cycle or drive away there are a few lovely cafes serving lunches and delicious cakes! our favourites include 'the old butchers' and 'café bleu' in the village of fishlake, 'the peppered pig' in cowick and 'the kitchen' in Snaith.

sailing : On the outskirts of the village within walking distance you will find Beavors Sailing Club.
